I support the Citizens for the Future of Eagle in protecting Eagle's Quality of Life.
As a member of the Eagle community, I am opposed to any development that will destroy Eagle's small town character. Eagle has remained unique because it has resisted massive, mainstream developments. The appeal of Eagle is that it is NOT like a majority of communities in the Eagle Valley - we do NOT want to be another Vail or Avon or Edwards. We want to protect our quality of life in Eagle.
The proposed Eagle River Station development does not fit in our community. The scope and size of this proposed development alone violates the principles grounded in the Eagle Area Community Plan (EACP), which was based on the feedback and input of Eagle area residents. Eagle River Station is too massive, too dense, and too poorly located to ever meet the standards defined in the EACP. Ultimately, to approve the Eagle River Station project is to approve the building of a whole new Town of Eagle on the outskirts of our community.
Working together we can find alternative ways to generate revenue without sacrificing our quality of life. The redevelopment of our current downtown is a step forward in attracting new businesses and shoppers. The Eagle Ranch shops are just beginning to fill. Let's take the time to build our infrastructure. Let's embrace our small town quality and unique character . Let's fully explore the revenue sharing opportunities that exist. We can do better than becoming just another town with the same big box stores.
I encourage the Eagle Planning and Zoning Commission and Board of Trustees to listen to the community and deny the proposed Eagle River Station development. |
